Alice B Germane

June 6, 1920 — May 7, 2017

The earthly world lost a wonderful woman Sunday night, May 7, 2017. Alice B. Germane (nee Beljan) is quite possibly the most unique and amazing woman I've had the pleasure of knowing. A life long educator and community volunteer, Grandma modeled what engaged citizenship looks like. Whether it was a school levy, a local election or the Presidential race, she never missed her opportunity to vote.

She did the New York Times Crossword Puzzle daily, and added Sudoku to her bag of tricks to maintain mental agility until Alzheimer's crept into her life. She was a lover of all Cleveland sports, and I'm thrilled Cleveland gave her a championship one last time! In her younger days, she was often found keeping the box score of the Indians games current on a blackboard in her parents' restaurant. She was Valedictorian of her high school class and eventually earned her Masters in Education.

An avid award winning quilter, member of the garden club and historical society, world traveler and theater-goer, Grandma brought music, books and art in our lives at a young age. But most importantly, she brought integrity, love (sometimes tough love) and courage to whatever she encountered in life. Thank you for your gifts to us....nearly 97 years of impacting the world whether you knew it or not, Granny.

Thanks for those 'Afternoons with Alice'. I'll cherish them always.
