Allen Edward Crane was born on December 1st, 1944. He was raised by his father Emery and his mother Helen. After losing his father at the young age of 13, Allen was befriended by many brothers and sisters in the Heights Congregation as well as the Chesterland Congregation, including the Rock family. Allen was a spiritual man and demonstrated his love for Jehovah God by pioneering and serving as a shepherd for a time in the Christian congregation. Allen lovingly cared for his mother until her death in 1989.
Helen raised Allen with a love for Jehovah God and Jesus Christ. He was especially fond of Jehovah's creation and spent many hours fishing, hiking, taking trips to Canada and exploring the beauty of nature around him. Allen was a devoted family man and by way of his example, conversations with his family, and quiet moments in the outdoors, he deeply instilled in his children a love for their Heavenly Father and helped them to understand why He is worthy of our worship. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years Debbie, his son Adam (wife Melissa), son Nick, daughter Allison (husband Ryan), and son John. Allen was especially fond of his grandchildren Jude and Sage and loved spending time with them, especially hiking in Holden Arboretum.
Allen was widely known for his generosity and was always known for lending a helping hand, be it someone who needed a tool, needing to be moved, or helping to repair boilers at the Willoughby Assembly Hall. His love and hospitality for "the widow and the fatherless boy" was a trademark quality that endeared him to many through the years. Prior to their courtship, Debbie was attracted to his generosity, seeing it in action at a congregation picnic. She observed a child in distress and before she could help the youngster, Allen was already comforting and entertaining the child. She vividly remembers thinking:
"You know what? This guy might just work out!"
Allen was an active man – he was an accomplished skier, ice skater, baseball player, and avid card player. He enjoyed playing sports with his children and even played football into his 60's. Allen looked forward to the future of a Paradise Earth where Jehovah God's faithful servants will fully enjoy all of His creation in peace.
