ANTONINO "TONY", "BIG-T" FERRANDO, age 83, of Lyndhurst, Ohio passed away surrounded by an abundance of love on Sunday, October 14, 2018. He was born June 5, 1935 in Forli Del Sannio, Italy, the son of Carlo and Maria (nee Patete) Ferrando. He immigrated to the United States in 1954 to join his family on the ocean liner SS Andrea Doria.
Tony was a construction worker and self-taught, all around handyman. He was funny, determined, strong-minded and loving. Family was everything to him; even neighbors became family. Long-time friendships and love that have continued throughout generations, these are some of the relationships that we have been able to always count on. Spending days, weeks and summer months out at the camper surrounded by people whom he loved, was all he ever really needed. He was all about getting out and exploring. He always said you didn't need much to travel, just a sandwich and a swirl of the travel cup! Tony was very proud to have visited every state in the USA and to have taken his grandchildren and great nieces and nephews to places for the first time and being able to experience a road trip through his eyes.
He was a true story teller who knew how to captivate a room. Through his stories, he taught us the most valuable lessons; one being simplicity. The simple things in life are the best things. Gardening, canning tomatoes and making wine were some of his favorite things to do. There are so many traditions that he has instilled within his family and they will continue on. He enjoyed golfing and the countless rounds he took on the golf course with his brother Mario, good friend Rich Bohr and so many others.
He is survived by his loving partner of over 24 years, Sandra Keberdle, his children Anita (Tony Phillips) and Michael (Pam) Ferrando, grandchildren Natalie (Jordan) Wlotzko, Paul (Katie) Jacobs, Anthony and Alessandra Ferrando, great grandchildren Jordan and Alina Wlotzko, John and Liam Jacobs, brothers Nicola (Maria) Ferrando of Chesterland and Mario (Marilyn) Ferrando of Mentor, sisters Rina Di Franco and Adele (Ed) Sabo, both of Chesterland, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Giuseppe "Joe" Ferrando, sisters Lucia Fasano, Ida Rossi, Alfonzina Amicone and Filomena Ferrando, and his parents. Interment Maple Hill Cemetery. Funeral Services 10 a.m. Thursday at THE FIORITTO FUNERAL HOME 5236 MAYFIELD ROAD, LYNDHURST (EAST OF RICHMOND RD.) WHERE FRIENDS MAY CALL WEDNESDAY 4-8 P.M.
