Catherine McLane Hoff (nee McLane) of Euclid, Ohio passed away peacefully in her home on June 9, 2026, with her children at her bedside. She was loved by all who knew her and had a life full of family and friends. She was the cherished wife of the late William R. Hoff for 28 years and is survived by her son Peter M. Popovic and daughter Laura Kay Thompson (Craig). Catherine was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Michael and Belle McLane (nee Myers) on July 30, 1932.
She was the second of two children, as her older sister and best friend Mary Ellen Vieweg (nee McLane) preceded her in death along with her brother-in-law Walter Vieweg. Known as “Sis” and “Aunt Sissy”, she is survived by her nephew Dr. Walter Vieweg (Valerie) and niece Beth Ann Bernabei (Ray) and was recently preceded in death by her beloved niece Cynthia Vidmar (Joe). The expansive extended family of great-nieces and great-nephews were a large part of her life right up until the end. Courtney Bernabei, Erick Vidmar, Adam Vidmar and Carrie Vieweg played a huge part in the family throughout her life. This includes the great grandnieces Maddison and Mackenzie Vidmar and great-grandnephew Noah Vidmar. Catherine also has many cousins from the extended McLane and Myers Family Trees, including keeping in touch with her cousin Joanne Stein in California who she was close to.
Catherine was very active and popular at her Alma Mater East High School in Cleveland and was known as “Sis” throughout High School. It was at East High School that she met her first husband Peter L. Popovic who passed away in 2012. His parents Peter Popovic and LaVerne Popovic (Lindeman) were also a large part of her life. She continued to attend reunions throughout her later years, staying in touch with classmates throughout.
During the mid-late 1960’s, Catherine was extremely active in the “Euclid Little Theater” which was at the time was the one of the most prolific theater groups in Northeast Ohio.
