CLIVE HAMLIN, age 84
Born January 25, 1941 and died January 1, 2026. Born in Bath, England (UK) of Pearle (Howard) and Denis Hamlin. Husband of Mary (Deceased, nee Marshall) for 53 years, and of Jane (nee Sembric) for seven years. Father of Vanessa Hamlin. Brother to (deceased) Rosemary Hamlin-Douglas (deceased) and Greg Douglas(deceased) and Sarah Trevor (Buz). Brother-in-Law to (deceased) Gilbert Marshall(Helga), Patricia Wilson (Derek), Moyra Kileff(Brian) and Carol Sells (John) and uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Clive graduated from The University of London (UK), performed graduate studies at Imperial College (UK) MSC, DIC, and University of Waterloo (Canada) PhD. He moved to Cleveland in 1969 where he was associated with Case Western Reserve University throughout his professional life. He was Director of Clinical Chemistry and Associate Director of Clinical Pathology at University Hospitals for 25 years. He founded and directed The National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center Clinical Laboratory.
Concurrently, Clive directed the laboratory at The University of Suburban Health Center (South Euclid), founded and directed University Medical Laboratory, and served on many student PhD committees. He has provided the endowment for two professorships at the University and the first Presidential Scholarship at The Cleveland Institute of Music. Clive loved to travel (few countries not visited) and the arts, music, opera, ballet and the theater.
In lieu of flowers, and in memory of Clive, donations can be made to any organization with a mission encouraging young people to appreciate the arts.
