Dolores Sacco (nee Frankovitch), a long time resident of Napa, California, died November 29th at Anna Maria in Aurora.
Mrs. Sacco is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Joseph Sacco. She is survived by her three children, Jodee (Richard Upjohn) Upjohn nee Sacco of Tiburon California, Dr. Damon (Cynthia Rock) Sacco of Sausalito, California and Joel (Carie Tirabasso) Sacco of Aurora, Ohio, and three grandchildren that brought great joy to her life, Dana, Maddy, and Joey.
Born on July 11, 1929, in Farrell, Pennsylvania. Dolores graduated at the top of her class from Villa Maria Academy High School. She attended Penn State where she received a bachelor’s in education in three years. During this time she met her soul mate and partner for life, Joseph. In fact they originally eloped without telling their parents. The couple relocated to Cleveland where they raised their children and settled into their careers. Together with her husband, they opened The Warehouse Wilderness Shop in Lakewood, Ohio. After a first retirement, Dolores continued her education at Case Western Reserve University School of Applied Social Sciences where she obtained a master’s degree.
Dolores taught at the Cleveland Public School Systems for over 31 years. After her first retirement, Dolores started a second career as a social worker counseling women with AIDS at Metro Hospital in Cleveland. After she retired a second time, she joked that Metro Hospital hired three people to replace her.
Dolores traveled extensively. Some of her more memorable trips include Ikaria, Greece, Turkey, Italy, France and Ireland. She also loved Maine, Alaska, Quebec, Canada and rafting down the Colorado River.
Many thanks to the staff of Kensington at Anna Maria. Memorial Gifts can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or The Cure Alzheimer’s Fund.
