DONALD G. LINDMARK, Ph.D., age 71, lost his life on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Lake County Memorial Hospital West surrounded by his loving family.
Beloved husband of 19 years to Dorothy (Jane) Lindmark (nee Howes) of Willoughby Hills, Ohio; loving father to son Peter G. Lindmark, dearest step-father of Christopher P. Cunningham and Kendra Cunningham Howley (Michael), grandfather to Charles M. Howley; and brother of Alan Lindmark, Ph.D. (Judy).
Donald was a devoted Professor and former Chairman of the Biology Department at Cleveland State University (CSU). He was born in Bridgeport, CT., received his Bachelors of Science from the University of Connecticut, and his Masters and Ph.D. from the University of Rhode Island. Before joining the faculty at CSU in 1984, he conducted research and taught at The Rockefeller University NY, NY, and at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. While at Rockefeller University, he discovered and characterized the Hydrogenosome, and worked in the laboratory of a Nobel Laureate. In 1982, Professor Lindmark earned the Seymour Hutner Award, a major international honor for studies on the cutting edge of scientific research. Professor Lindmark taught over 5,000 students in his career, and was looking forward to retirement in June 2013.
Donald will be remembered as a dedicated teacher, loving father, devoted husband and leaves behind many wonderful friends and colleagues in Cleveland and around the world.
