Gloria Cannata

In Loving Memory of Gloria B. Cannata (nee D’Amico)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Gloria B. Cannata. Gloria was born January 1st, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio and passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025.

Gloria was born to Pasquale and Maria D’Amico and was one of seven siblings (Mary, Anne, Gene, Bill, Tony, and Guido). She grew up on the east side of Cleveland, attending John Hay High School. She and her husband Antonino (Tony) were married on July 24th, 1954 and spent 55 loving years together. Gloria and Tony loved to entertain and were the life of the party, hosting their famous clambakes and many family gatherings. They loved to travel, taking trips to Italy, Australia, Tahiti, and many more.

Gloria was a devoted mother to Gail (John), the late Susan, Joan (Herb), and Anthony (Ruth). She was the proud and loving grandmother of Mark, Michael, Matthew, Douglas, Amanda, Alexander, and Rachel. She was the great-grandmother to Megan, Kaitlyn, Grace, Zachary, Dominic, Grayson, and Evelyn, and most recently became great-great-grandmother to Wynter.

Gloria lived a full and vibrant life. She had a deep love of reading, often finishing nearly 100 books a year. Music was always a part of her world-she loved to sing and play the organ, sharing joyful tunes even into her later years. Her sense of humor was sharp and playful, and was quick to joke around with family and friends. She never missed a birthday, and was famous for making and sending homemade cards to the entire family.

She cherished her walks, especially along the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, and always had a crossword puzzle nearby. Gloria had a competitive streak too-she proudly beat her grandchildren at Words With Friends on a regular basis. A good glass of wine, warm conversation, and the company of those she loved were some of her favorite things.

She will be remembered for her warmth, wit, strength, and unwavering love for her family and friends. Gloria, you gave us so much laughter, love, and beautiful memories. We will miss you dearly and carry your spirit with us always.

A mass and celebration of Gloria’s life will be held on May 3rd at 10:00 at St. Anselm Church (12969 Chillicothe Rd Chesterland OH 44026) followed by a burial service at Chester Township Cemetery in Chesterland, OH. (12250 Chillicothe Rd Chesterland, OH 44026).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Light of Hearts Villa in Bedford OH, who cared for Gloria graciously. https://lightofheartsvilla.org/donate-now/
