MARTHA A. VEGH (Cherry), age 88, passed away May 30 under the care of Hospice at Breckenridge Village, Willoughby, Ohio. She was the beloved wife of Elmer S., devoted mother of Robert Cherry (Carol), James Cherry (Kim), Ann Cherry Gilbert (Thomas), and step-mother of Steven Vegh (Gina), Ellen Vegh (Martin Gaynor), and Daniel Vegh (Diana). She had 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and was the daughter of Samuel Orville and Gladys Liblin Walthall (both deceased), sister of Alice Taylor (Zack), and former spouse of Willis J. Cherry (deceased). Born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Martha moved with her family to Cleveland Heights at age 7 where she graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in June of 1945 and Flora Stone Mather College in June of 1948. Currently residing in Willoughby, Martha had previously lived in Lyndhurst since 1956. She excelled as an award-winning schoolteacher, enjoying a 27-year career at Memorial Junior High as an 8th grade English Teacher. She travelled extensively with Elmer, and lived life fully playing golf, ballroom dancing and competing on the tennis court. As an active Christian, Martha served her church and community, assisting on many committees including the Presbytery of the Western Reserve. Interment will be in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Memorial Service 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6 at Lyndhurst Community Presbyterian Church, 5312 Mayfield Road, Lyndhurst, OH 44124.
