Interment Lake View Cemetery. Funeral Services 11 am Friday at THE FIORITTO FUNERAL HOME, 5236 MAYFIELD RD, LYNDHURST (E OF RICHMOND RD) WHERE FRIENDS MAY CALL 5-8 PM THURSDAY.
Mike was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa and spent his youth in Newark, Ohio.
A lover of linguistics, Mike could speak seven languages and spent 13 years living in Europe and working for USAID, Flextronics and The Economist in Latvia, Hungary and Austria. He also was a Total Immersion Swimming coach and translated the technique for the German audience while coaching a para-Olympian swimmer. After coming back to the United States, he worked as a VP for market research firm The Freedonia Group. He most recently worked as a Healthcare Systems Engineer for University Hospitals.
Always a tinkerer and problem solver and a lifelong nature enthusiast, he shared his love of the natural world with his wife and children who joined him in bird watching, planting native pollinators and hatching Monarch butterflies. A true fan of dad jokes, he kept all his jokes in his “dadabase”. He was interested in genealogy and self-published his family history which helped him establish and maintain connections to his relatives in Sweden.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant a native pollinator in his memory or that donations be made in Mike’s memory to Ohio History Connection for the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks in Newark, which were dear to him.
