Sam Anthony Cannata, loving husband of Grace (nee Anzalone), devoted father of Sam (Jill) and Ken, adored "Papa" of Enzo (Nadia), Mia, Lucia and John, dear brother of Nancy Glorioso (Lou, deceased) and Kathy Wojtowitz (Edward). Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Sam "Santo" and Jennie (nee Santorelli.)
Born on July 26, 1936 in Cleveland, Sam was known from an early age for his kindness and generosity. Over the years, he built a life marked by a successful business, dedication to his family and community service. He was the proud owner and operator of Cansto Paint and Varnish Company, started by his father, an immigrant from Savoca, Sicily. Together with his family, Sam grew the business from its humble beginnings making paint and varnish in a small garage in Cleveland's Flats, to making various paint products for Sherwin Williams and other household names.
Of all his accomplishments, Sam's greatest pride was his family. Sam and Grace were married sixty-five years, his grandchildren knew him as "Papa" and adored any chance they could get to be with him. Beyond his family, Sam touched countless lives through his work and as a parishioner of St. Dominic Church. He will be remembered for his generosity, unwavering faith and his ability to make everyone he met feel comfortable and special. His legacy is one of love, laughter and kindness. Although he will be missed beyond measure, his spirit will live on in the lives of all who knew him.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to The Mt. Alverna staff, who cared for Sam the last year of his life.
