Sara Ann Kaas Lyle

Sara Ann "Sally" Kaas Lyle (nee Mitten) passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on December 4, 1936, Sally grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio. She graduated from Shaker Heights High School and went on to attend Miami University.

Sally worked as an administrative assistant for several years before working at the Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools, where she held a variety of roles. She particularly enjoyed her time as secretary at Gurney Elementary, where she became a familiar and beloved face to students, staff, and families alike.

Sally was an active member of the community. She was involved with the Special Olympics when her children were young, a cause close to her heart. In her later years, she volunteered for various organizations in her community of Chagrin Falls, Ohio and Geauga county. She also enjoyed knitting, crafting and being active in The Federated Church. Her greatest joy, however, was found in her family—especially in cheering from the sidelines as her grandsons played sports. Sally was endlessly proud of her grandsons and loved sharing their accomplishments with friends and family.

She is survived by her sons, Paul Frederik Kaas and Brian Robert Kaas (Allison); her cherished grandsons, Wesley, Spencer and Brady; her brother, William Mitten (Joyce); and many other beloved family members. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Mabel and Raymond Mitten; her first husband, Erik Holger Kaas; and her second husband, Charles E. “Skip” Lyle.

A celebration of Sally’s life will be held May 14, 4:00-7:00pm, at The Tanglewood Golf Club, 8745 Tanglewood Trail in Chagrin Falls, Ohio.
