Sara M. Schoppenhorst

Sara M. Schoppenhorst passed away on December 30, 2020, in her home in Willoughby, Ohio. She was born on November 26, 1926 in Higginsville, Missouri to William and Jessie (Carroll) Schoppenhorst, Sr. Her only sibling was her brother, William Schoppenhorst, Jr.(deceased)
Sara attended and graduated from Cottey College, Nevada, Missouri, then the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas with a B.S. in Physical Therapy and finally from Stanford University, California with a M.A. in Physical Therapy. Sara was awarded the Certificate of Registration as a physical therapist on January 1955 by the Board of Medical Examiners in the State of California.
Sara was the Administrative Director of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at The MetroHealth System from 1956 until her retirement in 1991. She was on the faculty of Kent State University and Case Western Reserve University as Lecturer in Physical Therapy and Assistant Clinical Professor.
Besides the profession of physical therapy, Sara enjoyed horses and was devoted to her many corgis.
Sara is survived by Lynn and Kris Valencic who were like nieces to her, and beloved friends Albert Herscher (partner Rick Synder) and Pam Gest.
