Secdonia Ann Hall was born on January 14, 1931, in Prairie, Mississippi, to Sidney and Elveria (Strong) Heard. She was the second of eight children. When she was four years old, her family relocated to Arkansas. At an early age, she accepted the Lord as her Savior at Cherry Beam Missionary Baptist Church in Tyronza, Arkansas, and her mother raised her and her siblings to follow the Word of God.
Secdonia graduated from Houston Colored High School in Houston, Mississippi, in 1949. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1954. Met and married Payton A. Hall, Sr., in May of 1956 they had four sons together: Payton A. Hall, Jr., Anthony W. Hall, Winston D. Hall, and Bertrand K. Hall. Payton A. Hall, Sr. passed away on June 3, 1976.
She worked as a nurse assistant at Mt. Sinai Hospital for several years. Secdonia was also actively involved in the PTA at her children's elementary school for many years and worked as a teacher's aide. She had a passion for children and loved working at a neighborhood day care into her seventies.
Secdonia was a woman of faith and was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church in the early 60s. She then became a member of Community Baptist Church for over 20 years, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Her love of hymns and spirituals led her to sing in various choirs. She later joined Faith Fundamental Baptist Church, where she remained a member until her passing.
Secdonia was devoted to mission work and spreading the Word of God. And generously contributed to various organizations, including Children Relief Organizations in Africa, Animal Rescue Shelters, Christian Mission work both here and abroad. Calvary Bible Mission in Boynton Beach, Florida is a mission she loved and supported. She continued to visit homeless shelters for women and nursing homes well into her eighties with her friends to minister the Word of God. Additionally, Secdonia also generously contributed to Veterans of Foreign Affairs in remembrance of her brother, who was injured in the Vietnam war.
She leaves to celebrate her life: four sons, Payton A. Hall, Jr. (Francine); Anthony W. Hall; Winston D. Hall (Julie); and Bertrand K. Hall. Five grandchildren: Alexander M. Monaco, Angelica A. Hall, Francisco P. Hall, Nina S. Hall and Olivia A. Hall;. Two brothers: Sidney Heard, Jr. and Franklin Heard. One aunt: Harriett Stevenson of Markham, Illinois.
She also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
