Violet Marie Szabo, age 89, born May 4, 1935 and passed away May 18, 2024 in Euclid, Ohio. Born in Windber, Pennsylvania to Charles and Helen Barbey who preceded her in death, she was the 5th of 8 siblings. Violet graduated from Shaw High School, and went on to work at the Weatherhead Company as an Accounts Clerk. A life-long member of the First Hungarian Reformed Church, she later served as their Church Secretary. She was married July 28, 1968 at the Church to Rev. Dr. Stephen Szabo, the Minister of the First Hungarian Reformed Church, who predeceased her in 2004.
Violet was the loving mother of Paul Szabo (wife Amy), step-mother of Stephen Szabo (wife Joan), Fred Szabo (wife Mary) and was "Grandma Vi" to Meg, Chrissy, Griffin, Gaby and Gilly. Sister of Helen (husband Valentine) (both deceased), Charles (wife Evelyn) (both deceased), Rose (deceased), Stephen (wife Gayle) (both deceased), Lillian (husband Harlan Gill, deceased), Richard (deceased) (wife Sharon) and Robert (deceased) (wife Patricia). She was a loving aunt to 17 nieces and nephews and 26 great nieces and nephews.
She was a consummate care-giver, an amazing cook and baker and had the most beautiful smile and big laugh. She was an active member of her church, participating in the choir, the Women's Guild, the Lorantffy Society and the "Noodle Makers" group who met weekly to make amazing Hungarian noodles which were sold as a fund raiser for the church and enjoyed by all. She was also active in the church's visitation group that visited with members of the church who were unable to attend church due to health issues. She served as secretary and/or treasurer to many church related organizations, and supported her husband with the publication and distribution of the Calvin Synod Herald which is a publication for the Hungarian Reformed Community.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARE INVITED TO GATHER AT THE FIRST HUNGARIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 14530 Alexander Road, Walton Hills, OH 44146 FOR THE FUNERAL SERVICE AT 10 AM FRIDAY, MAY 24TH, followed by Interment at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chesterland.
