Walter Ernest Mueller passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024, at age 87.
Having said goodbye on July 7, 2024, to his loving wife, Karen, of 64 years, he will be dearly missed by his Son Jeff (Diane), Grandchildren Max, Bailey (Doug), Sarah (Brian), Abby, Zachary and Great Grandchild Crew. Walter was also an Uncle, Cousin and Friend to so many. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Elise, Son Wally (Lauren), Sister Elizabeth Morrison and Grandson Andrew.
Walter had a great life that revolved around family, friends, hard work, being outdoors, traveling and volunteering. After attending Ohio University, his career began as a teacher in the Cleveland School District, at which time he received his Masters from Cornell University. A few noteworthy events around his teaching included running the annual science fair for hundreds of students in the Greater Cleveland area and many years at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History running the planetarium. After leaving teaching, he pursued other positions as a plant manager, and eventually, financial planning services. Some other interesting jobs along the way included being a milk man, helping his sons deliver the Cleveland Plain Dealer in the winters of 1976-1978 in the snow belt, and finishing up in golf sales at a local sporting goods store.
He served as an officer in the Air Force and was in the Korean War. His first son Wally was born while he was in Korea. Walter operated the scoreboard at Mayfield High School football games for 25+ years. He was an avid bird watcher, tennis player and loved to travel all over the world with Karen pursuing hiking, shelling, tennis tournaments, and National Parks. In his retirement years, he was able to play golf most days and attended too many events to mention for his kids and grandkids.
